And the Water

Dec-Jan2013 104

And the water
she calls to me, saying
Daughter, come here
daughter, stay here

I descend into depths
cold
clear
as ice
and I whisper back
Mother, I am here

The Trees
they call to me, saying
Daughter, come here
daughter, stay here

My hand upon their bark
rough
smooth
we touch
and I whisper back
Mother, I am here

The Earth
she calls to me saying
Daughter, come here
daughter, stay here

Dirt between my toes
soft
warm
I sigh
and I whisper back
Mother, I am here

And the universe
she cries to me, screaming
Daughter, you’re here
daughter, be here

Always,
not in bursts
always,
not just calls

I lift my arms and shout
I am here!

  1. I’m excited to read the rest! Are you familiar with Sherri S. Tepper? Specifically her book ‘The Gate To Women’s Country’. Very similar themeology and mind-set as yours. Awesome, awesome book with the BEST twist. Her book ‘Beauty’ is also very amazing. I really recommend you reading ‘Gate’, and you will see that you are on the right track and that there are other women authors who feel the same. Women can be powerful without being the warrior. That one is also a female protagonist on foot 🙂

  2. The connection to nature is the theme of the third book of the series that brings all the threads of the story together. The second one is much darker than the first, set much more in the ‘man’s’ world. I hope I’ve written a female centred story where the women are strong and in control without having to act like men ie swinging big swords and trampling on everybody around them. Sorto fo natural really 🙂
